Review: Warriors of God, Andrzej Sapkowski

Rating: 5 out of 5

The look into the Hussite Wars continued to be captivating. Mr Sapkowski’s style—caustic with a lot of commentary on social issues—is enjoyable though also tiring: I had a long runway to start with this book and though I will continue with the series, I’m keeping a bit of a distance between this book and the third one.

What I said about the author’s style only means that one needs to think along with what is happening. Truthfully, some of the comments made also were funny enough to laugh out loud. In the first book, the majority that fell into this category related to Reynevan’s naivete, but even he had learned a bit (definitely not enough) about the world.

Another pillar of the book is of course the historical setting. Allowing the mentions of witchcraft, etc, which probably was a relatively big concern at the time in any case, the events and sites the adventuring team saw and visited expand the reader’s understanding of Bohemian and Moravian history.

All in all, I’ll continue: enjoyable reading!
