Review: The Wonder Weeks, Xaviera Plas-Plooij

Rating: 2 out of 5

There’s no doubt that there’s an important point in this book. I enjoyed discovering that as well as understanding more what’s happening in the mind of the little one. However, the authors research is undermined by the enormous amount of repetition that’s going in: only in the very final chapter do they recognise that perhaps indeed the hapless reader has more than a peanut for a brain and doesn’t need to be told again the ten signs that another “period of change is unfolding”.

This repetition was a big enough problem for me that I stopped reading the book for months yet to be disappointed anew once I picked it up again and remembered the same dull phrases. I guess this means it’s not really intended to be read but used as a reference: though most titles I want to really get a handle on properly first by going through them so that approach doesn’t really work.
