The good work that Lord Norwich did with his historical books is difficult to underestimate. I have a few others on my bookshelves, but this is the first I’ve taken up in great depth and there certainly was a lot to enjoy.
Of course, the coverage for some popes was better than for others while a third group passed by in relative obscurity, but on the whole this book shows the reader how the Papacy worked through centuries and how it managed to reconfigure itself to be better or at least more wholesome in the next round.
A very good introduction into Papal history!
