Review: Beyond the Dragon’s Gate, Yoon Ha Lee

Rating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed this, but this was also a rather abrupt story. I was hoping for more from the author — especially as the protagonists name, already, is rather suggestive (Academician Kim). The Marshal, who was made to be something more than singular, was also unique — that is to say, weird. The discussion between the two which took up the majority of the plot was therefore also confusing.

Beyond these, there was also the subject of the story. I liked the idea — which I am not going to spoil — as it is new. As some of the other commentators are saying, this would be a great snapshot to start a series…
